Did you know that the Mediterranean Diet is a UNESCO heritage site?
When we speak of Mediterranean Diet we refer to a nutritional model that has remained constant over time and space characterized by a diet based on olive oil, cereals, fresh or dried fruit, vegetables and to a greater extent; reduced to fish, dairy products and meat.
On November 17, 2010 in Nairobi in Kenya, UNESCO included the Mediterranean Diet in the prestigious list, recognizing it as a world heritage of excellence.
One of the representatives of this heritage is; just Italy, together with other Mediterranean countries such as Spain, Greece and Morocco.
This Diet does not only represent a food model, but expresses a strong cultural value closely linked to the Mediterranean populations: their respect for the territories and for biodiversity is promoted; ensuring the preservation and development of trades and activities related to fishing and agriculture.
The term "diet" derives from the Greek etymology "lifestyle" , therefore the Mediterranean diet is one of the most common foods in the world. considered as the set of practices, representations, knowledge, habits with which the Mediterranean peoples have created a fusion with the socio-cultural, mythical and religious environment closely linked to the art of eating.
And that's not all! The attitude of the peoples of the Mediterranean, such as Italy, of interpreting mealtimes as an opportunity for social gathering and sharing is also exalted!
